Digital Citizen has a new site motto

When we launched Digital Citizen on October 15, 2015, we used a rather generic motto: “Digital Citizen – Life in a digital world!” Many readers overlooked it, as it appeared only in the title bar of their web browser or in Google search results, when looking for how-to content online. Looking back, it wasn’t the best choice; this motto did a poor job of describing what we do at Digital Citizen. For this reason, we decided to change it. If you’re interested in learning more about our new site motto and the reasons behind our choice, read this brief article:

One aspect that frustrates us about the modern web is how Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become embedded in many areas of the internet. This has led to some concerning trends:

Because of these trends, small independent publishers like us are finding it increasingly difficult to generate revenue and remain viable. Meanwhile, people using Google and other search engines have access to less original content that is accurate and useful.

We utilize AI tools in our work for specific purposes, such as translation and sentence rephrasing (refer to our Ethics Statement for more details). However, all of our content is created by real human beings based on thorough testing, research, and learning. Every article or video we publish is reviewed by members of our editorial team and is refined based on their feedback. None of our content is generated by AI, except for articles and videos used to showcase content created by AI. And today, more than ever, our focus is on explaining technology in an accessible manner to those who wish to learn how to use it.

After some consideration, we decided to change our site motto to:

Digital Citizen – Technology explained by people

We believe that this new motto conveys better what we do, emphasizing that when you read or watch content made by us, you access information created by a fellow person who worked hard to deliver it. I hope this motto will help us stand out in a crowded web where content created by AI is becoming increasingly commonplace.
